Sabinal Frog
Leptodactylus melanonotus)
The Sabinal Frog is a common name used for a subspecies or regional population of Leptodactylus melanonotus, also known as the Black-Spined Toad or Dark-Backed Frog. This species is found in Central America and parts of northern South America, and its local names, such as “Sabinal Frog,” often relate to the specific regions or habitats in which it lives. The Sabinal Frog is mainly nocturnal, emerging at night to hunt for insects and small invertebrates. During the day, it hides in leaf litter or other sheltered spots to avoid predators and the heat.
