Odontomachus haematodus, commonly known as the trap-jaw ant, is a species of ant in the subfamily Ponerinae. These ants are famous for their incredibly fast and powerful mandibles, which they use both for capturing prey and defending themselves. They are typically reddish-brown to dark brown. Odontomachus haematodus is a predatory ant, feeding on a variety of small arthropods. The trap-jaw mechanism helps them quickly subdue fast-moving or evasive prey.
