Xylocopa fimbriata typically exhibits a striking black body, which may have a slight metallic sheen. This carpenter bee is relatively large, with body lengths ranging from 15 to 25 mm. This species is known for its unique nesting behavior. Xylocopa fimbriata typically nests in dead wood or sometimes in soft plant stems, where it bores into the material to create long, straight tunnels. Each tunnel serves as a nesting site where the female lays her eggs.
