Blue Grosbeak

Passerina caerulea

The Blue Grosbeak is a stocky songbird with a very large, triangular bill. It is mainly migratory, wintering in Central America and breeding in northern Mexico and the southern United States. Male is deep cobalt blue with rufous wingbars. Females are warm brown with rufous or buffy wingbars. The Blue Grosbeak eats mostly insects, but it will also eat snails, spiders, seeds, grains, and wild fruits. They forage mainly on the ground.
