Painted Bunting
Passerina ciris
Painted Buntings are medium-sized finchlike birds with stubby, thick, seed-eating bills. Males are colored with blue heads, red underparts, and green backs. Females and immatures are a uniform, bright yellow-green overall, with a pale eyering. Eats mainly seeds, primarily those of grasses and weeds; sometimes eats berries and fruits. Also eats many insects, including beetles, caterpillars, grasshoppers, flies, and others.
