True Bugs of Zihuatanejo

SUBORDER HETEROPTERA

Mexican Bordered Plant Bug

Largus maculatus

The intense coloration on the outer edges of their body gives them a painted 'border' appearance which inspired their common name. The black body has an orange-red band that separates the thorax from the abdomen. The orange wing coverings have orange edges with black speckles covering the interior. Joints on the black legs are orange. The Bordered Plant Bug can be found walking along the ground or on plants. Adults feed on the juices of soft plant tissues.
