Chlosyne lacinia
The Chlosyne lacinia, commonly known as the Bordered Patch, is a small butterfly that can be found in open fields and meadows throughout the western United States and Mexico. Its vibrant orange, yellow, and black colors make it an excellent subject for nature photography. This species typically feeds on flower nectar, and is most active during the daytime hours. Its wingspan can reach up to 2.5 inches in length.
