Xenophanes tryxus

The genus Xenophanes contains a single species tryxus. It is instantly recognisable, with a pale brown ground colour heavily speckled with greyish; and large hyaline windows in the fore and hind wings. Xenophanes tryxus is found throughout much of central and South America from Mexico to Bolivia and Argentina. The adults are normally encountered singly or in two's and three's. They bask on bushes and low herbage with wings fully outspread but rarely spend more than a few seconds in one place.
