Prepona laertes ssp. octavia , the Yellow-tufted Prepona is a butterfly native to South and Central America. It is a member of the family Nymphalidae. Upper side: A brilliant metallic blue or violet-blue on the forewings and hindwings, with dark brown or black borders. The intensity of the blue varies depending on the angle of light, giving it a shimmering effect. Underside: Cryptically colored in shades of brown and gray, often resembling tree bark or dead leaves, aiding in camouflage. Known for perching on tree trunks or branches, wings closed, blending into the background.
