Zebina Hairstreak

Zebina Hairstreak

The Zebina Hairstreak (Rekoa zebina) is a species of butterfly belonging to the Lycaenidae family. It is found in Central and South America, ranging from Mexico to Brazil and is commonly seen in tropical and subtropical forests. Like other hairstreaks, it has small "tails" on the hindwings, resembling antennae, which can help confuse predators. The "tails" on the hindwings, combined with false eyespots, serve as a defense mechanism—predators may attack the wrong end, allowing the butterfly to escape.
