A distinctive feature is the leaves grow in pairs from a single bud. Each pair is composed of a larger and a smaller leaf. Leaves are a glossy dark green on the upper surface and a lighter green underneath.
The fruit ripens to yellow-orange and contains many seeds. Birds eat the fruits and disperse the seeds.
