Spring Field Cricket

Gryllus veletis

The Spring Field Cricket, Gryllus veletis, is a species of cricket in the family Gryllidae. Known for its seasonal activity and chirping sounds. The body is primarily black or dark brown, sometimes with a slightly reddish or tan tinge on the legs or thorax. Large, powerful hind legs adapted for jumping. Males produce loud, rhythmic chirping sounds by rubbing their forewings together (stridulation) to attract females.
