Chameleon Wrasse

Halichoeres dispilus

The Chameleon Wrasse (Halichoeres dispilus) is a colorful, adaptable marine fish found in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Exhibits variable colors, including shades of green, yellow, and brown, often with bright blue or orange accents. Juveniles are typically more vividly patterned than adults. Found on rocky reefs, coral areas, and sandy bottoms from shallow waters to depths of 3–40 meters (10–130 feet), ranging from the Gulf of California to Peru and the Galápagos Islands. Active during the day, it feeds on small invertebrates, such as crustaceans and mollusks. It often buries itself in sand at night for protection.
