King Angelfish
Holacanthus passer
The King Angelfish (Holacanthus passer) is a strikingly beautiful marine fish found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, from the Gulf of California down to Peru, including the Galápagos Islands. It is commonly seen in coral reefs and rocky coastal areas at depths ranging from 4 to 30 meters (13 to 98 feet). Adults are deep blue to dark purple with an orange-yellow tail and a distinctive white vertical stripe running along their body. King Angelfish are omnivorous, feeding on sponges, algae, plankton, and small invertebrates. They are often found alone or in pairs and can be territorial, especially around coral reefs.
