CLASS ACTINOPTERYGII
Giant Damselfish
Microspathodon dorsalis
Microspathodon dorsalis (Giant Damselfish) is found in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, from the Central Gulf of California to the Galapagos Islands. It inhabits rocky and coral reefs exposed to strong surge in boulder areas at depths between 3 to about 15 feet (1 – 5 m) and mainly feeds on algae, but will also eat some benthic invertebrates. They can be aggressive defending both feeding and reproductive territories by driving off other fishes and divers who come too close.
