Azure Parrotfish
Scarus compressus
The Azure Parrotfish (Scarus compressus) is a vibrantly colored reef fish belonging to the family Scaridae. Found in the tropical Eastern Pacific, this species plays a crucial ecological role in coral reef health by grazing on algae and contributing to sand formation through its feeding behaviour. Found in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, from the Gulf of California to Ecuador, including the Galápagos Islands. Prefers coral reefs, rocky coastlines, and seagrass beds, at depths of 2–30 meters (6–98 feet).
