PHYLUM MOLLUSCA
Stramonita Whelk
Genus Stramonita
The genus Stramonita belongs to the family Muricidae, a group of predatory marine gastropods commonly known as rock shells or oyster drills. These sea snails are well known for their ability to prey on bivalves, including oysters and mussels, using a specialized drilling technique. Typically inhabit rocky shores, intertidal zones, coral reefs, and estuarine environments. They use acid secretion and a radula (toothed tongue) to drill holes into shells and consume the soft tissue inside.
