Moths of Zihuatanejo
ORDER LEPIDOPTERA
Diaphania Pearl Moths
Genus Diaphania
Genus Diaphania is a member of Pearl Moths (Subfamily Spilomelinae). They prefer grassy areas, cultivated fields, and vegetated regions with plenty of host plants. There is a tuft of light brown "hairs" on the tip of the abdomen. Unfertilized females often sit with the tuft fully spread, which move slowly to spread their pheromones.
