Hawksbill Sea Turtle

Eretmochelys imbricata

The hawksbill sea turtle is known for its hawk-like beak. Unlike the other sea turtle species, hawksbill sea turtles have overlapping scutes (large scales) on their carapace (upper shell). Adults are close to 3 feet long and weigh 100-150 pounds. The hawksbill sea turtle is considered to have a tough stomach because they can eat sponges which are toxic to many other marine species.
